PeopleLearn's New Training Engine
For more than 20 years, our developers have been creating custom computer-based training for clients in heavy industrial to early childhood literacy. We have discovered that all training programs, with rare exceptions, have some basic features and functions in common. As a result, PeopleLearn has combined these features and functions into a training engine allowing plug and play features and built-in templates to deliver custom programs at more reasonable prices.
Hierarchal structure. All interactive training programs require some form of hierarchal structure in the form of sections, chapters, lessons, screens, pages, etc. In addition, a Table of Contents, Main Menu, or both, with a graphical or textual interface, are often created to navigate through training programs. Back and forth navigation to move to the next step in a lesson, a replay-the-screen function, print functions, help, a glossary, an index, a communications device, a tracking device or LMS, etc. are some of the many other functions commonly found in strong, interactive training programs. These features are designed to provide complete control to the user or the instructor in a blended learning scenario.
Multimedia. Our training programs utilize simple to complex graphics, text, and audio as the predominant media. Often, however, PeopleLearn's customers have opted to use additional media, such as rich DVD video, 2D/3D animations, Flash animations, hypertext, sound effects, music, and custom navigation controls. All of our standard templates utilize rich multimedia to deliver the content.
Learning modules. The template learning modules provide a means to plug and play the various types of interactive learning experiences desired in higher-end training programs. For example, we use video exercises, multi-level exercises, drag and drop exercises, discover experiences, simulations and modeling, etc. to enhance learning retention. Some of our clients are utilizing simulations to provide hands on learning to log on-the-job hours.

Management Tip! Monkey Management
Have you heard of the book, the One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey? It's a great book by Ken Blanchard. The essence of the message is, "Don't take on a problem if the problem isn't yours," or in other words, "Don't take somebody's monkey onto your back if the monkey doesn't belong to you."
Managers learn to replace the psychological reward of "doing" with the rewards of "leading"—namely, deriving satisfaction from what their people accomplish. This type of management style leads to productivity increases and improvement in morale. It requires some letting go. This is a difficult thing for insecure managers; however, the rewards are worth the sacrifice. It builds confidence in the employees and empowers them to become more productive.
An excerpt from Ken Blanchard's book reads… "I now clearly measure my success by what I am able to get my people to do, not what I do myself. I feel great, and I've been told I even look better than ever. Although I'm still busy, I no longer feel the pressed-for-time anxiety that I once did....The physical and emotional distress that were my constant companions before I learned monkey management are now just bad memories."
